Important Changes to .EU Domains

Dec 1, 2020, 15:15 PM

As you may already be aware, on 1st February 2020, the United Kingdom formally left the European Union, subsequently, there has been a transition period which will end on 31st December 2020. During the transition period organisations, residents and citizens within the United Kingdom were allowed to continue holding and registering .eu domain names.

However, once the transition period comes to an end on 31st December 2020, organisations, residents and citizens within the United Kingdom will no longer be eligible to hold a .eu domain name.

On 1st January 2020, .eu domain name(s) will no longer be compliant with .eu regulations. As such, we are providing our clients with several options to remedy this situation:

  • Update the ownership and address details of your .eu domain name(s) to a legally established entity or person within one of the eligible EU or EEA Member States; or
  • Request that your non-compliant .eu domain name(s) be set to “Do not renew” or deleted; or
  • If no action is taken, by 18th December 2020, Safenames will automatically move the domains under our Local Contact service in order to safeguard your domain name(s). Please note, the Local Contact service is chargeable in accordance with your contracted rate.
If you require any further informationplease contact your account manager who will be happy to provide assistance.
