The .gay policies bar the use of the TLD by recognized hate groups and prohibit hateful or harassing content. There are no other proscriptions on how to use .gay.

Once .gay is in its “General Availability” phase, anyone can purchase .gay on a first-come, first served-basis. At this time, during its “Sunrise II” phase, any trademark owner can register their corresponding .gay names via participating registrars.

This may depend on what phase of the launch we are in. Sunrise II requires a manual trademark validation. This usually takes two business days, but any back-and-forth communication or extenuating circumstances may require more time. Upon trademark validation, a .gay domain name is immediately available for use. During General Availability .gay registrations should take no more than 24 hours.

.gay domain names must comply with the following:

1. Minimum of 1 and a maximum of 63 characters;
2. Begin with a letter or a number and end with a letter or a number;
3. May contain letters (i.e., a-z, A-Z), numbers (i.e. 0-9) and dashes (-), and may not:
   1. Begin or end with a dash
   2. Contain a dash in the third or fourth positions (respectively)
   3. Include a space
