Why register .mt? |
---|
Malta, is located Southern European island in the Mediterranean Sea. South of Italy, East of Tunisia, north of Libya. Malta has a population of about 515,000 and is the world's tenth smallest country by area and fourth most densely populated sovereign country. Its capital is called Valletta, is the smallest national capital in the European Union, and the official and national language is Maltese, which is descended from Sicilian Arabic, while English serves as the second official language.
If you conduct business from within Malta it is time to register a .MT domain extension. Registering a dot 'MT' country code extension (top level domain name) will increase credibility for your business across the globe. Why? Country-code domains are meant specifically for businesses that do business within a particular country--in this case, Malta. The .com domain (and other generic TLDs) are not targeted and that online space is saturated--and you likely already have the .com for your business. Extend your brand presence with a more relevant, shorter domain--a ccTLD that differentiates you from competitors. Identify yourself as an official Malta business owner and give your clients and constituents more confidence as they interact with you online. Country code domains also help you rank higher in local search results. |

com.mt
commercial organisations
edu.mt
educational organisations
net.mt
Internet service providers
org.mt
non-profit organisations
tm.mt

Registration of new domain names must
be made under one of the above sub-domains.
When applying for domain name registration, an organisation may propose a name and .mt sub-domain. However, NIC(Malta) is not bound to accept
the proposed name, and may suggest an alternative name and/or sub-domain for registration. The .com.mt sub-domain is particularly sensitive (see NIC/N1: Notes on registration of sub-domains under .com.mt).
NIC(Malta) may ask for evidence of the organisation's right to use a name e.g. in the case of registered companies, this will normally take the form of a registration certificate.
Whilst every effort
is made to ensure that violations of the name registration policy are detected at the time of application, NIC(Malta) reserves the right to remove a name if a breach of policy is discovered at a later time. Applicants
are requested to read the Guidelines for registration of domains under .com.mt before applying.
Our application requires the proposed holder of the domain to declare their rights over the name under Maltese
law. In order to reduce bureaucracy, NIC(Malta) does not require applicants to provide supporting evidence of their claim in every case but reserves the right to question, at any time, the veracity of the declarations
and to request backing evidence. If no such evidence is provided within the stipulated period (typically 30 days), NIC(Malta) may choose to withdraw the rights to the domain from the holder.
In applications
for domains where NIC(Malta) has concerns regarding the rights of the prospective holder to the use of the name upon which the domain is based, NIC(Malta) can elect to request evidence to back the declarations prior
to issuing the domain name
Terms and Conditions of Registration under .mt.
Registrations are approved on a first come, first served basis.
The Holder and the Applicant are solely and jointly and severally responsible for the
domain name selected and applied for. Registration of a domain name does not confer any legal rights to that name. By registering a domain name, NIC(Malta) does not determine the legality of the domain name registration,
or otherwise evaluate whether that registration or use may infringe upon the rights of a third party.
Any dispute arising over the right to use a particular domain name between the Holder and any third
party after the proposed domain name has been registered should be settled between the contending parties using normal legal methods.
The Holder and the Applicant hereby agree to jointly and severally
defend, indemnify and hold harmless NIC(Malta), its officers, employees, and agents, for any loss or damages resulting from any claim, action, or demand arising out of or related to the registration or use of the
Domain Name. Such claims shall include, without limitation, those based upon intellectual property, trademark or service mark infringement, trade name infringement, unfair competition, libel, slander, defamation
or injury to business reputation.
NIC(Malta) reserves the right at any time, for good cause, to immediately revoke the domain name from registration.
NIC(Malta) shall not be held liable for
any damages resulting from the disruption or malfunction of the DNS service.
In no event shall NIC(Malta)'s maximum liability exceed the amount of one year's registration fee.
NIC(Malta)
reserves the right to refuse to register a particular proposed domain name.
Failure to effect payment of fees for a domain name may result, at the discretion of NIC(Malta), in the suspension or revocation
of that registration.
Any person signing this form on behalf of the Holder (and where applicable on behalf of the Applicant), hereto represents and warrants that he has been fully empowered by such person
to execute this form and that all necessary action to authorise execution of this form by him has been taken by the Holder (and, where applicable, by the Applicant).
The right to use a domain name is
granted to the Holder and not to the Applicant. In the event that the Holder revokes authority for the Applicant to act on its behalf, the Holder will retain the right to use of the domain name.
