Safenames would like to inform you that it is now possible to register second-level .KR domain names (example: mycompany.kr).
Guideline dates for .KR registrations are as follows:
1. Governmental Sunrise (Government, Supreme Court etc)
- September 18, 2006 to November 20, 2006 (2 months)
2. Former .KR registrations and trademark holders Sunrise (If you have previously registered trademark or the following: co.kr, or.kr, ne.kr, pe.kr etc before March 13, 2006)
- Request acceptance period: November 21, 2007 ~ January 22, 2007(2 months)
- Priority verification period: January 23, 2007 ~ February 27, 2007(1 month)
- Priority Announcement: February 28, 2007
- Registration (1st priority): February 28, 2007 ~ March 13, 2007(2 weeks)
- Registration (2nd priority if 1st priority did not register): March 14, 2007 ~March 27, 2007 (2 weeks)
3. Landrush
- Request acceptance period: March 28, 2007 ~ April 11, 2007 (2 weeks)
- Allocation: April 12, 2007
- Registration: April 12, 2007 ~ April 18, 2007(1 week)

Article 1 (Mission)
The mission of the Domain Name Registration Enforcement Regulations is to define the requirements for domain name registration under the Domain Name Registration Terms and Conditions of the Korea Network Information Center, hereinafter KRNIC
Article 2 (Definition)
The terms defined in the following regulations have the meaning herein assigned to them
Article 3 (Registration)
The Registrant shall state any information deemed necessary for domain name registration
Article 4 (Amendment of Registration)
4-1) Registrants may change the domain name only within 7 days after registration
4-2) Registrants may change their authorized agency by making application to the
Gaining Authorized Agency, hereinafter GAA.
4-3) The application mentioned in 4-2 will be processed within 5 days, the Losing
Authorized Agency (hereinafter LAA) provides approval. Without LAA approval, the
application will be processed after 5days
4-4) Registrants may not change their authorized agency, if their domain name is in
following status.
4-4-1) During a domain name dispute resolution process defined by Article 8-2
4-4-2) When the domain name is pending in court
4-4-3) When the expiration of the domain name shall occur within 7days according
to Article 7-2 of Domain Name Registration Terms and Conditions
4-4-4) Within 3 months of changing a domain name through the authorized agency
4-4-5) Within 10 days of the domain name’s registration
Article 5 (Obligation of registrants)
1) Registrants must retain all current and accurate information regarding a domain name
2) Upon registration of a domain name, it is the registrants’ responsibility to take any
necessary steps to avoid infringing on the rights of others, thereby violating the law.
Article 6 (Relationship between KRNIC and Authorized Agency)
1) The authorized agencies are not legal representatives of KRNIC
2) Authorized Agencies are responsible for the competency of their own work. And KRNIC
does not take responsibility for their work
3) Authorized Agencies must not present themselves as legal representatives of KRNIC,
and thereby take any action to infringe on this article.
Article 7 (Miscellaneous)
1) KRNIC establishes guideline to enforce the regulations.
2) Matters not mentioned in the regulations are dealt with according to the purposes of
the Domain Name Registration Terms and Conditions and the Domain Name
Registration Enforcement Regulations.
Additional Clause
(Effective date) The preceding regulations shall become effective pending the approval of the president of KRNIC
Article 1 (Mission)
The mission of the Domain Name Registration Terms and Conditions is to define the requirements for domain name registration under the bylaws of Article 4 section 2 of the Korea Network Information Center; hereinafter KRNIC
Article 2 (Definition)
The terminology utilized in the Domain Name Registration Terms and Conditions is defined as follows:
1) DNS (Domain Name System) refers to the database, dispersed worldwide, that
converts the IP address into the domain name
2) Domain refers to the sphere of authorized DNS
3) Domain Name refers to the path that indicates specific locations of the authorized DNS
4) KR Authorized Agency refers collectively to the 5 registrars contracted with KRNIC
5) Applicant refers to the private person or legal entity that applies for domain names
through the authorized agency
6) Registrant refer to the customer of the KR Authorized Agency that purchases a
Registered Name
Article 3 (The Structure of Domain Name)
A. The Structure of Domain Name is as follow
1) The third, second, and top-level domain names are arranged in hierarchical order and
are segregated by a dot
2) KR refers to Korea, the top level domain
3) Second level domains vary according to their functions, fields, regions, etc. The types
of second level domains are complied in an attached table. And domain name that
Hangeul is included is available registration directly without 2nd level domain
4) Third level domains are chosen by registrants under the regulations of section 2 and
Hangeul can not be included
B. The requirements of third level domains are as follows:
1) Letters of Hangeul (2,350 syllables), Letters of the Alphabet [A to Z] or [a to z],
numbers [0 to 9], and hyphens are available for domain names. Upper case letters are
displayed as corresponding lower case letters
2) A hyphen should not be utilized as the first or last character in a domain name
3) The domain name must contain more than 2 characters and less than 63 characters.
The domain name that Hangeul is included must contain more than 2 characters and
less than 17 characters.
Article 4 (Requirements of domain name registration)
A. Domain names below the specific second level domains are registered according to
their respective purpose
B. Registrants must have the postal address of their place of residence of Korea
Article 5 (The registration of domain name)
1. Registrations of domain names are received by the authorized agency
2. Registration of domain name for several valid requests are received by chronological
order (first com, first served)
3. Registrants agree to pay authorized agency the registration fee
4. Registrants are endowed with the right of using domain name until expire date
5. KRNIC could restrict the registration of certain domain names for the public interests
and stable managements of domain name system
Article 6 (Information update)
Registrants can update the information of domain name through authorized agency
Article 7 (Cancellation of registration)
Registration of domain name may be canceled by KRNIC if:
1) The data are found to be incomplete and incorrect, or didn’t meet the requirements
under Article 4
2) The fees are not paid until one month after expire date in any case
Article 8 (Dispute resolution process)
1. In instances where domain name disputes arise KRNIC will mediate between parties,
by means of Korea Domain Name Resolution Committee, hereinafter KDDRC
2. KDDRC abides by specific dispute resolution provisions that are in place. As KDDRC
receives requests act in accordance with provisions so that fair and appropriate
resolutions may be achieved. As disputes are resolved through KDDRC, KRNIC will
implement those decisions
Article 9 (Management of registration data)
1. All data or information collected shall be carefully managed only by KRNIC as a
creditable KR domain registry
2. All data or information shall be disclosed or used by KRNIC in accordance with
regulations set Privacy Policy
Article 10 (Enforcement regulation)
Enorcement regulation is defined by the domain name registration terms and conditions
