Why register .gt? |

Guatemala, located in Central America bordered by Mexico and the Caribbean, is most known for the volcanic landscape and Mayan culture. It is also home to Antigua, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a colourful tropical paradise visited by people from around the globe. With an estimated population of around 17.2 million, the capital and largest city is Nueva Guatemala de la Asunción, also known as 'Guatemala City'. Tourism has become one of the main industries, bringing in more than ~$1.8 billion in recent years. About two million tourists comes to visit Guatemala every year.
If you conduct business from within Guatemala it is time to register a .gt domain extension. Registering a dot 'GT' country code extension (top level domain name) will increase credibility for your business across the globe. Why? Country-code domains are meant specifically for businesses that do business within a particular country--in this case, Guatemala. The .com domain (and other generic TLDs) are not targeted and that online space is saturated--and you likely already have the .com for your business. Extend your brand presence with a more relevant, shorter domain--a ccTLD that differentiates you from competitors. Identify yourself as an official business owner in Guatemalan and give your clients and constituents more confidence as they interact with you online. Country code domains also help you rank higher in local search results. |

The Sunrise will open on March 5, 2012 and ends on March 18th. It has been separated into a “request” period and an “analysis” period. During the request period the administrative contact for any existing third level .gt domain name, which is not expired or disabled, may request:
A .gt IDN that is equivalent to the existing third level domain name. Note: the IDN request can only include letter changes corresponding to: á é í ó ú ü ñ (e.g., change “lapiz.com.gt” to “lápiz.com.gt”)
A second level domain name that is equivalent to the existing third level domain name (e.g., register “lapiz.gt” and/or “lápiz.gt” for the existing “lapis.com.gt”)
The analysis period opens on March 19th and closes on May 28th. The typical “first come, first served” policy will not be followed and the Registry has reserved the right to request supporting documentation. During this time all eligible domain names will be identified and reserved in the Registry’s system for a maximum of 30 days
The registry then opens on the 29th of May 2012
Anyone will be allowed to apply for an available domain name, IDN or second level domain.
Applications will be process on a “first come, first serve” basis.
